Beautiful Louis Vuitton trunk from 1898 originally used to carry hats. The trunk is covered with a jacquard woven canvas, the first monogram canvas of the house Louis Vuitton, produced from 1896 to 1904 only. There are also leather trims, the most luxurious finish of the time and brass jewelry stamped Louis Vuitton.

The interior is lined in linen, with padding to secure the original customer's family photos. There is also the Louis Vuitton manufacturer's label, with the Louis Vuitton serial number, the various addresses of the time, as well as the medals won by louis vuitton at the World Fairs of the time.

Very good condition : The trunk is in superb condition for its age. There are some grafts of canvas on the bottom of the luggage, very discreet, as well as a restoration of the leather band of 10cm on the front. Very nice patina of the leather and the jacquard canvas.

Louis Vuitton was born in 1854, a Layetier - Packer manufacturer initially specialized in the manufacture of storage boxes. Louis Vuitton's great revolution was to have anticipated the development of rail transportation, at a time when travel by carriage was predominant. In order to travel by train, the trunks had to be stacked in the carriages and their curved shape at the time prevented this. By proposing the first flat trunks, Louis Vuitton invented the first luxury trunk. He quickly added noble materials to the interior of his trunks, with specific fittings, edges protected by leather, solid brass clasps... Over the years, Louis Vuitton perfected his trunks to meet the demands of his wealthy customers. In 1872, in order to distinguish his pieces from the competitors who were all starting to copy his production, Louis decided to invent the first patterned canvas to cover his luggage: the stripes. We then found in 1888 the checkerboard fabric, followed by the famous LV jacquard monogram in 1896.
