Louis Vuitton mail trunk

Very nice Louis Vuitton courier trunk covered with a woven Jacquard fabric from the year 1906. This very old mail trunk is moresque finish with metal edges, beechwood slats and many reinforcements. 
The central lock has been changed by Louis Vuitton, it is numbered and signed "Louis Vuitton made in France". 

We can guess a heavy past on this travel trunk, with many hotel labels stuck on the top, testimony of its numerous trips, as well as transport labels stuck by the staff to ship the trunks. The various labels show the cities of Africa, Italy, France and Switzerland. 

The initials of the original owner "EF" are painted on each side, accompanied by a white star. The interior is fitted with 3 canvas frames equipped with removable clothes dividers also covered with canvas. 

The serial number of the trunk is present inside the hood, corresponding to the years 1904-1906. There is a padded interior allowing the customer to attach photos or letters directly into the trunk. The bottom is equipped with 4 wheels and covered with a plain canvas.

The woven Jacquard fabric of the LV company is the first monogrammed fabric invented by the trunk maker and used from 1896 to 1904. This canvas is very little used and is today among the most complicated coverings to find in good condition.
