Louis Vuitton trunk c.1925
Adorable 1920s Louis Vuitton cabin trunk, covered with stencil monogram canvas and protected by black Lozine trim. It features metal jewelry and a central brass lock stamped "Louis Vuitton Paris". The letter corresponding to the trunk key is engraved on the bottom of the clasp.
The front and back of the trunk feature an attractive red line, with the original owner's initials "P.A" painted in the same color on each side. These colors enabled the traveler's staff to recognize the trunks belonging to his customer among the other luggage. Once unloaded in a port, station or directly at the hotel, the luggage sometimes numbered in the hundreds, so this was the best solution at the time to be able to distinguish them quickly.
These cabin models were 33cm high, the same height as the bed in an ocean liner cabin or the berth in a sleeper car - so travelers could easily stow their trunks under their beds, whatever the type of journey.
The interior of the trunk is lined in cotton, with 2 Louis Vuitton-marked canvas straps for securing garments. There is also a Louis Vuitton manufacturer's authenticity label, with the serial number and various store addresses of the time. Note the ribbon star in the hood, used by the first traveler to store photos and small documents while traveling.
Very good condition: The trunk is in very good condition for its age, with a few stains on the exterior and interior lining.

These trunks disappeared from Louis Vuitton or Goyard sales catalogs when the airplane supplanted the liners in the immediate post-war period. For lack of traveling today with these cabin trunks, their format is ideal to make a coffee table. Often protected by a glass, it is the assurance of having an unusual table, full of history and symbol of an art of living at the beginning of the 20th century.
